Antalya Roman Harbor

Antalya was founded 2000 years ago because of its a good location for a harbor. It became a major Mediterranean port of Asia Minor in ancient Roman times.

The Romans strengthened the citys fortifications and improved the facilities of the harbor. Through Byzantine times, and the empires of the Seljuk Turks and Ottomans, daily life in Antalya was centered on the harbor.

Today the harbor is still at the heart of Antalya, at waters edge in the historic core of the old city called Kaleici (Old Antalya). Its now surrounded by restaurants and cafes, and is a favorite place to gather in the afternoon or evening to sip tea, coffee or a drink, or to have a nice meal.

The boats in the harbor now private yachts and the broad beamed gulets that take visitors out into the Gulf of Antalya on fishing trips or day long excursions along the coast.

From the old harbour in Kaleci, Antalya, you can take a boattrip for the day or evening. Typical trip will include a 6 hour boattrip. Lunch (fish, spagetti, sallad and bread) was included in the price. It can be a good idea to compare a few boats and prices. If you are walking around in the harbour in the evening you cant miss all the people wanting to sign you up for their trip the next day.
