Perge Antalya

Perge

Perge is the closest Roman ruin to Antalya and one of the most significant ones, definitely well worth a visit.

You can make a day of ruin hopping by combining it with visits to Aspendos, Termessos and perhaps even Side.

The Great Theater and the stadium of Perge are its most fascinating and still intact buildings, but the most photographed are the remnants of massive Hellenistic Roman gate towers because they are so extraordinary.

Through the gates, there are remnants of a fine colonnaded street, quite impressive. The agora and southern baths are also worth exploring. The acropolis, on a near by hilltop, has few extant buildings but gives a fine overall panorama of the ruins.

With Antalya or Side as your depature point, car or guided tours are the most convenient ways to visit Perge. By public transport, take a minibus from Antalya to the town of Aksu on the Antalya-Side highway, then hitch, hike or taxi 2 km (20 minutes walk) north to Perge.
